OSMAN SAGAR LAKE

  •  Osman sagar was created by damming the Musi River in 1920, for providing drinking water source for Hyderabad, and also saving the city from floods, on the lines of which Hyderabad suffered in 1908.
 

  • It was during the reign of The Last Nizam of Hyderabad, Osman Ali Khan, hence the name.
 

  •  A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake, now a heritage building, was built as a summer resort of the last Nizam.
    It is located on the banks and has the best view of the lake.
  •   Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department, currently, runs the place as a resort. The breeze of the lake is very pleasant, and has been popular with the locals since The Nizam's time.

                 HIMAYAT SAGAR LAKE          
  •  Himayat Sagar is an artificial lake located about 20 km from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, India.
   
  •   It lies parallel to another artificial lake Osman Sagar and it is smaller in size among both. The storage capacity of the reservoir is about 3.0 TMC. 
       
  • The construction of reservoir on Esi a tributary of Musi River was completed in 1927, for providing drinking water source for Hyderabad, and also saving the city from floods, which Hyderabad suffered in 1908.
   
  • Itwas built during the reign of The Last Nizam of Hyderabad,NizamVII and so it is named after his youngest son Himayat Ali Khan.
 

  • The Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs provided continuous water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad until recent but due to growth in population it was not sufficient for water supply to Hyderabad city.
  • The Enigneer at the time of construction is Late Khaja Mohinuddin S/O Mohammed Hussein ,Madri,The grassy area adjoining the lake is an ideal picnic and recreation spot. The road atop the bund is popular for a good road drive.
  
 

HYDERABAD ( BIRLA PLANETARIUM/SCIENCE MUSEUM )




























                   
  •     Though commonly known as the B M Birla Science Museum, the B M Birla Science and Technological Museum was established in 1990.

  • Located very near to the Alliance Francaise, the B M Birla Science Museum is situated in Saifabad. The B M Birla Science museum is acknowledged as one of the greatest sites of learning small and great facts that are relate with science. It also an institute of research and development. 
 
 
  •    The entire area of the B M Birla Science museum is divided into various segments with distinct titles marked for the each individual section. 
 
  •  The Planetarium offers daily sky shows (in Telugu and English) reciting various aspects of the enigmatic Cosmos, the mind boggling mysteries of the Universe, the undying comets, the Hubble Space Telescope, Eclipses, the puzzling Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO's) and the very recent clash of the Titans. As the sky show begins, the visitors are virtually transferred into the galaxy as they watch a large canopy of dark sky, full of shining stars looking down upon them. The convincing background sound effect multiplies the feel of being in outer space, which adds to the excitement and exhilaration.


  •  The most recent addition to the Planetarium is the Dinosorium - a new wing which houses, the fossil of 160 million years old "Kotasaurus Yamanpalliensis", excavated in Adilabad district. 
 
 
  • Apart from this highlight, the Dinosaurium also has a collection of smaller fossils of dinosaur eggs, marine shells and fossilized tree trunks. The place always succeeds in enthralling people with its breathtaking sky shows of mysterious universe. It is the one place in the city, which should not be missed out by children. The Planetarium remains closed on the last Thursday of every month.
