HYDERABAD, KBR NATIONAL PARK


  • Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park located at Jubilee Hill, Hyderabad covers an area of 156.30 hectares. The park established in 1994 to safeguard the biodiversity and richness of the area, is named after late Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. 

  •  This picturesque park is unique in its own way. It houses the stately Chiran palace of the former Nizam of Hyderabad and also the other historic structures.




  • It is meant to safeguard the greenbelt and the existing variety of flora and fauna. It is expected to prevent pollution, replenish fresh oxygen and recharge ground water. 

  • It is also envisaged to be the centre stage for spreading environmental awareness among the citizens.

  • Regular nature camps are conducted for school children and a full-fledged environment education centre is coming up
                                    

  • The flora is typically representative of southern tropical deciduous forests and the last vestigeal representative of the indiginous flora of Hyderabad region.  

  • The park has nearly 600 species of trees, shrubs, climbers, herbs, grasses, besides several pteridophytes, bryophytes and xerophytes.

  •  It is a house to nearby 113 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 15 species of butterflies, 20 species of mammals and numerous invertebrates. 

  •  It serves as an urban refuge for Jungle Cats, Palm Civets, Wild Boars, Hares, Mongooses, Monitor Lizards, Pythons, Cobras and other snakes. No large mammals are present in the national park.

  • The sprawling NTR Gardens, offer a serene atmosphere and yet provide recreation facilities such as a Machan tree, Japanese Garden, Car Cafe, Souvenir shops, Fruit Restaurant and Children's Playing area and lot of more.

HYDERABAD, NTR GARDENS


  • This leisure spot is located beside the IMAX theatre. Situated on 36 acres (150,000 m2) of land adjoining the Hussain sagar, these gardens provide of entertainment and recreation to families and youth alike. 
             
                            
  •   It also houses a memorial of Late Shri N.T.Rama Rao, former Chief Minister. It is renowned for its creative design which includes tree-top restaurants and architecture.

HYDERABAD, NEHRU ZOOLOGICAL PARK


 
  • The nocturnal house at the zoo artificially reverses night and day for the animals so that nocturnal animals are active while visitors are at the zoo. This exhibit includes fruit bats, slender loris, slow loris, civets, leopard cats, hedgehogs, barn owls, mottled wood owls, fishing owls, and great horned owls.
                                    


  • The zoo runs several safari trips each day, such as the Lion Safari, Tiger Safari, Bear Safari, and Butterfly Safari Other attractions include elephant rides, a natural history museum, and a children's train. 
                       
   
  • The lions, both African and Indian are exhibited in this Zoo. It is a treat for the visitors to visit the only safari park for Indian Lions in Asia, with almost natural forest setting. The Tigers both white and normal have their own forest glades. The Panthers (normal&black) are exhibited in large enclosures with rock cliffs. Others include the Wolves, Jackals, Foxes and Hyena. The Weasel group is represented by Ratel and others.

  • In this zoo, there are about 1,500 different kinds of animals are present.Nearly 100 species of birds, animals and reptiles are housed at the zoo, including indigenous animals and birds like the Indian rhino, Asiatic lion, tiger, panther, gaur, orangutan, crocodile, python, as well as deer, kangaroos, antelopes, and birds. 
                                

  • The zoo's undulating landscape provides a natural setting to the animals and birds, which are displayed in large enclosures simulating natural habitats. The 200 year old 600-acre (240 ha) Mir Alam Tank, with its unique multiple arched bund (embankment), attracts hundreds of migratory birds, providing yet another attraction for the Zoo. 
     
     
  • The A.P. Tourism Development Corporation has introduced a ferry-boat and speed-boat, which also attracts a visitors for boat rides.

  • Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad was established in 26 October 1959. It was opened to the public on 6 October 1963. 
                                 
  •  The Nehru Zoological Park is run by the Forest department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and is named after the first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru.

HYDERABAD, PARKS AND GARDENS


















































  • This zoo is a natural habitat housing a large variety of animals, birds, nocturnal species, aquatic and amphibian species. 
 
  • Located close to this is the Mir Alam Sagar, which is proposed to be converted into an Aquarium along the lines of Sentosa, Singapore. 
 
  • Its unique feature is the 21 in-built masonry dams that are jewel shaped, which were built in 1804 by Henry Russle, a French engineer in British service.
 
  •   It is a 380 acres (150 ha) zoo located near Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is the largest zoo in India, and one of the three most visited destinations in Hyderabad.

  • But the thing that lures people at the Hussain Sagar Lake is literally and symbolically is the massive Buddha statue that stands majestically in the middle of this placid lake. 
      
  • The 16 meter tall, 350-tonne monolithic gigantic sculpture rises high from the calm waters of the scenic Hussain Sagar Lake. 
     
  • The statue is entirely made of white granite, finely sculpted and stands grandly on a wide dais amidst the glistening waters of the lake.
      
  • From the southern side, the lower Tank Bund road is heralded by the famous and very popular Katta Maisamma temple and close to it is the sprawling green lung, the Indira Gandhi Park.
      
  •  A new artery known as the Necklace Road links Lumbini park in Hyderabad with the Sanjeeviah park in Secunderabad. But the centre of attraction literally and figuratively is the monolith Buddha statue in the middle of the ancient lake.  
                         

 
 
 
 

HYDERABAD , HUSSAIN SAGAR LAKE


















  • The Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad is an enchanting lake and is the largest man-made Lake in Asia. Hussain Sagar Lake always attracts visitors throughout the year who become mesmerized by its radiant calm blue water. 
   
  • It was built by Ibrahim Qutub Shah in 1562, on the tributary of the River Musi. 
    
  •  The place where the Hussain Sagar Lake is located is called 'Tank Bund'.


  •  It is an abridged version of its actual area, and has attained lovely trimmings and environs that augment its appeal to tourists as well as the residents of the twin cities. 
                             
  •  The Lake doubles up as an important landmark as well as picnic and recreation spot. The Lake is bordered by four major spans of greenery, Indira Park in the east, Sanjeevaiah Park in the north, Lumbini Park in the south and a green belt stretch squeezed in between the Raj Bhavan road and the Necklace Road. 
           
  •  Indira Park, named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is the oldest of these four parks and is also a favorite site among the residents of the city.

HYDERABAD ,DURGAM CHERUVU



























  • Spread over 63 acres, the rock formation surrounding the lake has been aesthetically illuminated, with quaint waterfalls, an interesting rock garden, and a beautiful floating fountain. Comfortable seating arrangements, a 2km walkway, a green belt and a coffee shop under a huge rock on the eastern side of the lake add an elegant touch to a harsh landscape.
      
  •  The towering boulders glow eerily with subdued lighting. The lake is separated from a dance floor by a picket fence.  
       


  •  The sledge hammer music, Popular DJs and ethereal ambience makes the Secret Lake more enchanting.
   

  •  Durgam Cheruvu lake in Hyderabad also provides the facilities of boating on its waters. You can take a pedal boat and move around the waters for 1 hour by paying up only 120 bucks – provided you can brave the Hyderabadi sun. 
            
  •  There are other rides also available for nominal prices in mechanized boats and also in putty boats.

  • It is Also called The Secret Lake it is a peaceful boulevard near the bustling Madhapur.  
   
  •  During earlier times, this lake used to supply water to the Golconda Fort. It lies just beside the posh Jubilee Hills area.
   
  •  The lake is called Durgam Cheruvu because there was no road leading to it for years and it was completely enclosed from all sides, making it difficult to know that there was a lake beyond the rocks. This was why very few people used to visit this place. 
   
  •  Hidden from the world by an imposing ancient granite rock shield of boulders and hillocks, Durgam Cheruvu is considered to be one of the unique attractions of Hyderabad.

  •        Picnic at Osman Sagar lake -The pristine lake is the most sought after picnic spot among the locals in Hyderabad. Tourists coming to visit the Osman Sagar Lake can indulge themselves in the nature walk and can enjoy the soothing breeze of the environment. 
  • The lake is good hang out for the people of all age. Picnickers are seen here enjoying all day, playing cards and anthakshri (singing songs), trying out various sports and the oldies taking a leisure walk around the lake.


  •  Ocean Park :Located at the Osman Sagar Lake, Ocean Park is the first theme park of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is situated in the 20 acres of landscape garden and quite popular among the Children and couples. It is the family amusement park with the numerous water sports and amusement games. It has a separate section for the kids and the separate section for the adults. The main attractions of the park are the toy train, helicopters, huge air filled filled balloons, video games for the kids and tora tora ride, single loop roller coaster for the adults.


  • Treasure Island -Another major attractions around the Lake is the Treasure Island. It is located on the 60 acres of landscape area at the Osman Sagar Lake. It enchants the tourists with the amazing landscapes and romantic pool-sides. Tourists can also go for the camel ride and enjoy the various adventure sports.

HYDERABAD , OSMAN SAGAR LAKE

  •  Osman sagar was created by damming the Musi River in 1920, for providing drinking water source for Hyderabad, and also saving the city from floods, on the lines of which Hyderabad suffered in 1908.
 

  • It was during the reign of The Last Nizam of Hyderabad, Osman Ali Khan, hence the name.
 

  •  A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake, now a heritage building, was built as a summer resort of the last Nizam.
    It is located on the banks and has the best view of the lake.
  •   Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department, currently, runs the place as a resort. The breeze of the lake is very pleasant, and has been popular with the locals since The Nizam's time.

                 HIMAYAT SAGAR LAKE          
  •  Himayat Sagar is an artificial lake located about 20 km from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, India.
   
  •   It lies parallel to another artificial lake Osman Sagar and it is smaller in size among both. The storage capacity of the reservoir is about 3.0 TMC. 
       
  • The construction of reservoir on Esi a tributary of Musi River was completed in 1927, for providing drinking water source for Hyderabad, and also saving the city from floods, which Hyderabad suffered in 1908.
   
  • Itwas built during the reign of The Last Nizam of Hyderabad,NizamVII and so it is named after his youngest son Himayat Ali Khan.
 

  • The Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs provided continuous water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad until recent but due to growth in population it was not sufficient for water supply to Hyderabad city.
  • The Enigneer at the time of construction is Late Khaja Mohinuddin S/O Mohammed Hussein ,Madri,The grassy area adjoining the lake is an ideal picnic and recreation spot. The road atop the bund is popular for a good road drive.
  
 

HYDERABAD ( BIRLA PLANETARIUM/SCIENCE MUSEUM )




























                   
  •     Though commonly known as the B M Birla Science Museum, the B M Birla Science and Technological Museum was established in 1990.

  • Located very near to the Alliance Francaise, the B M Birla Science Museum is situated in Saifabad. The B M Birla Science museum is acknowledged as one of the greatest sites of learning small and great facts that are relate with science. It also an institute of research and development. 
 
 
  •    The entire area of the B M Birla Science museum is divided into various segments with distinct titles marked for the each individual section. 
 
  •  The Planetarium offers daily sky shows (in Telugu and English) reciting various aspects of the enigmatic Cosmos, the mind boggling mysteries of the Universe, the undying comets, the Hubble Space Telescope, Eclipses, the puzzling Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO's) and the very recent clash of the Titans. As the sky show begins, the visitors are virtually transferred into the galaxy as they watch a large canopy of dark sky, full of shining stars looking down upon them. The convincing background sound effect multiplies the feel of being in outer space, which adds to the excitement and exhilaration.


  •  The most recent addition to the Planetarium is the Dinosorium - a new wing which houses, the fossil of 160 million years old "Kotasaurus Yamanpalliensis", excavated in Adilabad district. 
 
 
  • Apart from this highlight, the Dinosaurium also has a collection of smaller fossils of dinosaur eggs, marine shells and fossilized tree trunks. The place always succeeds in enthralling people with its breathtaking sky shows of mysterious universe. It is the one place in the city, which should not be missed out by children. The Planetarium remains closed on the last Thursday of every month.
